Beginning Ballet Workshop
The workshop will be held the four Sundays in February from 2:30-4pm at Battery Dance Studios, This is where Liberated Movement holds our classes, at 380 Broadway, buzzer # 5, two blocks south of Canal street at the corner of Broadway and White street in Manhattan. The four class workshop is $60 total, paid-in-advance and limited to the first 15 dancers who sign up – so that each dancer will get individual attention. You can pay here on our website. As an incentive, if you attend all four of the workshop classes, you will receive a certificate for our open level ballet class — on us! In one week the workshop price is going up to $75. Eek! Sign up by paying now. Have questions? Email me! liberatedmovement@gmail.com.
Except for this beginning ballet workshop, all classes at Liberated Movement are open level. That means everyone dances together, brand new beginners and dancers who have years of training. The beauty of this model is that beginners get to watch and learn from the more advanced dancers and the more advanced dancers can benefit from the joy and excitement beginners bring – what they call “beginner’s mind”. As teachers, we cater to the varying skill levels in classes but at times beginners can feel the need for more explanation and practice of the basics. This class is for you!
In ballet, like yoga, the hardest thing to master is your alignment. It is the first thing you learn–to simply stand erect, stacking each part of your body evenly and mindfully. Standing tall involves lifting, lifting, lifting, strongly yet softly, inviting pillows of air in between your bones, and reaching your head skyward as if holding up the very dome of the indigo sky.
You should take this class if:
- You’ve always wanted to take ballet.
- You’ve heard me talk about my ballet class but you’ve been waiting for me to offer a beginning class.
- You too intimidated to try an open level class.
- It’s been many years since you’ve danced ballet and you want a refresher.
- You take my open level class but you feel like you would like to review some fundamentals.
Please share this with your friends, and sign up soon, as spaces are filling quickly. If you have any questions, you can email me at liberatedmovement@gmail.com. To confirm your spot in the workshop, you can pay directly on our website. Sign up soon as classes are filling quickly!

Ballet builds such beautiful bodies, when I am in your neck of the woods ( err, neck of the country) I am coming in for a lesson!

It is so great when students love what they are learning–I think it gives so much to the class and the teacher.

Absolutely! He gives so much to the other students, he is really welcoming and sweet with others, mentoring beginners, learning from those more advanced, and great inspiration to all of us!
